Dog Licenses

Per WI State Statute 174.05:  Requires that an owner of a dog(s) more than 5 months old shall be licensed each year.  A license year commences on January 1st and ends December 31st.

Reminders to license your dog(s) will be put on the yearly property tax informational sheet that is included with your property tax bill, published in the  Daily Jefferson Union, posted on this website and at our posting sites (Town Hall and Lake Ripley Inn).

Fees for licensing are:

Spayed/Neutered                           $5.00
Non Spayed/Neutered                 $10.00

On April 1st a $25.00 late fee per unlicensed dog will apply to every license non-renewed.  WI State Statute 174.05(5)

All licenses require current proof of rabies vaccination certificate from your vet (not the bill) as it includes the manufacturer & serial number of the vaccine given along with the veterinarian’s signature.  If paying by mail, you will need to include a copy of this certificate, the required payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope so we may send you the license.

If you no longer have your dog(s), you need to notify the Clerk’s office.  Failure to do so may result in a fine.

Please be advised that in addition to assessment of a late fee, the matter of an unlicensed dog(s) will be forwarded to the Oakland Police Department if not licensed by the 3rd Wednesday of May.  This will result in a citation.

Please help keep the Town of Oakland a safe place for our residents and to be able to return your pet should it become lost.  We are usually the first place someone will call to find an owner of a lost dog.
