February 26, 2025 Enbridge Update
Chair Laura Payne has organized the next Public Forum with Enbridge on Monday March 24th at 6 pm at the Oakland Town Hall. At the public forum, Enbridge will be presenting the activities outlined in their Site Investigation Work Plan (Work Plan) and other reports regarding the recent oil spill at Enbridge Energy Line 6 Cambridge Station. After the presentation, Oakland residents will have an opportunity to ask Enbridge and the DNR questions. If you are unable to attend, you will be able to view a recording of the forum on YouTube at a later date.
The following reports are now available on the DNR’s BRRTS on the Web: Site Investigation Work Plan (Work Plan), Water Supply Sampling Plan, and the Surface Water Sampling Plan (of the adjacent agricultural drainage ditch). Please follow this link to view these documents: BOTW.
The Water Supply Sampling Plan outlines Enbridge’s proposal to collect water samples from residential potable water wells within a 0.5-mile radius from the Enbridge facility. The 0.5 mile radius is above what the Wis. Admin. Code NR 716.07(7) requires of responsible parties. Wisc. Admin. Code NR 716.07(7) requires parties responsible to evaluate the potential impacts of any water supply well within a 1,200-foot (~0.25 miles) radius from the edge of known contamination. Elizabeth McGeary, Director of the Jefferson County Health Department and Chair Laura Payne met with the DNR and advocated for a larger radius out of an abundance of caution to protect public health and safety. The County’s press release is also available on the DNR’s BRRTS on the Web.
